China dominates the global jewelry market with 33%, surpassing the USA at 22%. Although Americans spend over $1,500 per capita, China prevails in total size. In the USA, diamonds account for 40%, while in China, gold makes up 60% of sales.
Jewelry consumption in China is female-dominated. With “self-pleasing” consciousness playing a decisive role, Gen Z female is the core driving force. However, Gen Z male also showed a contrarian trend with a 10% acquisition rate, especially in Tier 2 and 3 cities.
The rise of e-commerce and live-streaming has made jewelry more accessible to consumers nationwide. Combined with the growing purchasing power of Gen Z these platforms have become key to engaging this demographic. In 2023, e-commerce sales of jewelry in China accounted for over 40% of total jewelry sales, reaching approximately USD 46 billion (RMB 340 billion), reflecting a year-on-year growth of 40.3%.
